Join us for our seventh Assembly! This month we'll be focusing on community, the reason so many of us sought out Sunday Assembly in the first place.
This month's speaker will be Sue Kocher, to share with us her work in helping people through the painful transition away from their faith communities. Sue has served on the Board of the Triangle Freethought Society (TFS) since its inception in 2009 and has worked on a variety of activist, educational, and community projects in support of the freethought/atheist community. Sue was among the first to be trained as a volunteer for Recovering from Religion Hotline, a resource for callers who are struggling with their loss of religious belief. In her talk, Sue will discuss the growing need for the RR Hotline, and share stories of internal conflict and family and community loss—and also relief—that callers experience as a result of leaving their faith.
After hearing about the struggle of people separated from their old communities, we will continue our efforts to build our new community and to celebrate life together. As always, there will be singing and laughter and snacks and conversation. We can't wait to see your smiling faces again, or to welcome your new smiling faces to our community!
*NEW LOCATION*: We are moving to the Arts Center in downtown Carrboro!!! Please come check it out--we are very excited about the new location and think it will better fit our and your needs. Possibly the best thing about it: We can EAT INSIDE! So bring on the snacks!!!
Don't forget that we are currently collecting items for our end-of-summer community yard sale! As a fundraising effort to help keep Sunday Assembly Chapel Hill in the black, we are collecting all the stuff you don't want anymore so that we can sell it to folks who do want it. The yard sale will be in August, so we will have big collection bins at our July Assembly. Please donate your old toys, lightly used baby clothes, games, jewelry, household items, or even furniture (but please keep in mind that we will have to transport and store what you bring). We'd be happy to take things off your hands, and you'd be helping keep this awesome community going.
Song list for this Sunday:
If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out by Cat Stevens
Lean on Me by Bill Withers
True Colors by Cyndi Lauper
Help! by the Beatles
