Our first three Assemblies have been such a blast, and we can't wait to keep the fun going! Our April Assembly will be focusing on the "wonder more" part of the Sunday Assembly motto, and we'll be learning about the evolutionary origins of some universal human behaviors.
Our guest speaker at this month's Assembly will be Duke University PhD candidate, Christopher Krupenye. Chris has spent the last 4 years researching at chimpanzee and bonobo sanctuaries in Africa, studying the decision-making and cooperative behaviors of our closest evolutionary relatives. He'll tell us a little about just how similar apes are to humans (and, bonus, there will be awesome videos of adorable chimps doing cool things!). For more background on Chris's work, check out this article he recently had published in The Atlantic. If you are extra eager to pick Chris's brain about chimpanzee behavior, be sure to sign up to come with us to lunch after the Assembly!
In addition to the inspiration provided by our speaker, we will (of course!) continue our celebration of life--there will be singing and laughter and snacks and community and conversation.
We can't wait to see your smiling faces again!
Like last time, we'll be at the Phillips Middle School auditorium, and the Assembly starts at 10:30 a.m.
As always, we'd love to have you help out by greeting fellow assemblyers, or by bringing snacks. Please leave us a comment here if you're interested in volunteering!
